BALL HOMAGE:
Flags are lowered at the castle statue
THE 243 Branch of the RAFA wish to inform all interested parties that our annual act of homage will take place in memory of Captain Albert Hall VC at his statue in Nottingham Castle grounds on Tuesday, May 7, at 8pm

We shall be honoured with the presence of Mrs Paddy Armstrong, the niece of Albert Ball, and hopefully his nephew, Mr Oliver Ball. The Lord Mayor and Sheriff will also attend, along with members of the armed services, including veterans, serving members and the cadet forces.

The service will be conducted by the RAFA chaplain, the Rev Stan Carter.

As in past years we expect a magnificent turnout and a cordial welcome is made to everyone, including the writer of the letter in Good

Friday's edition of the Post, who suggested we should consider erecting a statue to this very gallant airman.

The statue at the Castle was erected only a few years after his death and his portrait hangs in the castle.

The writer should know that the Robin Hood Corps of the Army Cadets at Chilwell led by Major Harvey, will attend in full force to pay their respects.

Captain Ball VC is far from forgotten. We at the RAFA will continue to honour his memory.

I MUST put the record straight regarding the statue of Capt Albert Ball, MC, DSO, VC.

There is a lovely statue on the Castle Green and I do apologise if! misled anyone.

I felt it should be in the Market Square where more young people could see it. But then, perhaps not, some good statues have been removed from the Market Square.
