Beats In Kansas: The Beat Generation in the Heartland

DOMINION and other poems
by Alan Russo, 1977

doomed to reply
(last long look)
looming from the headlights of a billion billboards
idiot jowls flapping in the wind,
"Kilroy was here"
the signature of all things
leaking from the frayed edges of control.

Johnny tied his puppydog to a tree
and loved it.

but never in the eyes of the lord.

The tree grew up to heaven,
a perpetual fountain of care.
